F.A.Q

How do you store Ecofass drums?

Empty drums: Storage temperature between 0 and 25°C

Do not store empty drums under pressure; depressurize immediately on return.

Full drums: Storage temperature <25°C

Do not store drums in the sun or roll them.

How to store Ecofass bags

Pouches must be stored in their packaging, in a clean, dry place Pouch storage temperature: > 10°C

Can the bags be reused?

No, the bags are single-use

What are the pocket's functions?

The pouch is a multi-layer complex that offers several advantages. Its oxygen barrier allows :
  • Longer, optimal shelf life for your beer
  • Filling with compressed air
What’s more, the bag also protects the barrel, so there’s no need to clean it.

What's the difference between a plastic pouch and an aluminium pouch?

Shelf life.

Plastic bags are suitable for rapid keg rotation (beer stored for a maximum of 3 months* in the keg before tapping).

The aluminum pouches allow you to store your beer for up to a year* in the keg before tapping.

*Average shelf life: depends on beer type and storage conditions.

What types of beer are compatible with Ecofass?

Ecofass kegs can be filled with any type of beer.

Refermentation and forced carbonation in barrel are possible.

Do I need a special head to use Ecofass drums?

No, Ecofass is adapted to standard catering installations and works with “A” or “S” type filler heads.

What equipment is needed to fill Ecofass drums?

  • A” or “S” type filling head
  • A clamping bell
  • A ratchet or torque wrench
  • A pump (in the case of refermentation or forced carbonation)
  • A compressor

Possibility of using a turner. Please consult us

Can the drums be filled right side up?

No, filling must be carried out with the drum turned upside down, to ensure optimum deployment of the bag during filling.

See our user manual in the “practical guides” tab.

Do I need a pump to fill the Ecofass drum?

Yes, in the case of barrel refermentation and forced carbonation.

How long does it take to fill an Ecofass drum?

The average filling time is between 2 min and 5 min.

How do you know if the barrel is full?

At the end of filling, the filling head pressure gauge drops to 0 bar. At this point, immediately turn off the beer inlet: the keg is full.

You can check the volume by weighing your keg.

Is it necessary to fill with back pressure? If so, in which cases?

Yes, whatever the type of beer, filling must be carried out with constant counter-pressure throughout.

We recommend a back pressure of 0.8 bar for a pressure of between 1.5 and 2.5 bar at the pump or isobarometric tank outlet.

Is it necessary to apply counter-pressure once the barrel is full? If so, in which cases?

Yes, whatever the type of beer, a back pressure of 2.5 bar must be applied once the pouch is full.

Can a 20L bag be used in a 30L drum?

No, each drum must be used with the same size bag.

Each drum/pocket must not be underfilled.

Can Ecofass drums be filled on an existing drumming line?

Please consult your manufacturer.

How to depressurize a barrel

Always depressurize the barrel before unscrewing the nut to remove the bag:

  1. Break through the filling head, open the air release valve and let the air out.
  2. Open the beer inlet valve to depressurize the inside of the ladle.
  3. Unscrew the nut safely

I can't depressurize my barrel. What should I do?

It is possible that the seals on the head of the pouch are stuck.

In this case, operate the filling head several times on the barrel head.

If depressurization is still not possible, inject a slight counter-pressure to loosen the seals, then open the air release valve and depressurize the barrel before safely loosening the nut.

Reminder: do not store a keg under pressure; the keg must be depressurized as soon as it is returned to the brewery.

How long does beer keep?

The technical properties of the pouch mean your beverage will last longer and last longer.

Can I rack the drums with compressed air?

Yes, you don’t need a special gas to fill the beer.

Barrier bag prevents gas from coming into contact with beer

Are drums and bags recyclable?

Drums are 100% recyclable.

Ladles are multi-layered complexes that are currently difficult to reprocess. They are classified as Solid Recoverable Fuels (SRF) and can be used to produce heat and/or electricity, reducing dependence on fossil fuels (gas, coal, oil) and the amount of waste sent to landfill.

A bag recycling solution is being studied with our partner.

Are the drums stackable?

Yes.

What is the maximum barrel pressure?

Maximum operating pressure is 3 bar.

The drum is fitted with a safety valve set at 4 or 6 bar depending on the model.

What to do about foaming when filling?

Chill barrels

Gradually increase filling pressure to 3.5 bar

Desaturating beer

How do you desaturate beer?

  1. Remove back pressure
  2. Soak the beer pipe in a glass of water, open the beer outlet valve slightly, and let the beer “bubble” in the glass for about ten minutes, depending on the desired result.
  3. Apply a back pressure of 2.5 bar

What to do with flat beer?

It is possible to carbonate a beer that is too flat:

  1. Remove back pressure
  2. Inject CO2 (3.5 bar) directly into the beer inlet, keg inverted. Duration depends on barrel volume and temperature.
  3. Apply a back pressure of 2.5 bar

Can we customize the barrels?

  1. The 20L, 25L and 30L sizes are available in 3 different ring colors (yellow, black or red).

  2. You can personalize the kegs with stickers, stencils and spray paint.

  3. We can offer you a solution for screen-printing the ring. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

Are the drums and bags made in France?

Yes, 100% made in France.

How long does the barrel last?

Drum life is estimated at 10 years, based on 5 rotations per drum per year.

Reminder: Do not store an empty keg under pressure, for safety reasons and to ensure proper use of the keg. It is important to depressurize the keg as soon as it is returned to the brewery. See depressurization procedure in the user manual.

What is the barrel guarantee?

The barrel is guaranteed for 1 year.

The safety valve is leaking. What can I do?

The safety valve is a wearing part. It can be replaced. Please contact us for valve replacement instructions.
